The Whole World is a Single Flower

Greetings!

I have not posted for a while so I thought it was time.  And fortuitously we have a major event in the Kwan Um School coming up! The Whole World is a Single Flower is a conference that brings together our Sanghas from all over the world.  From the conference website, “The Kwan Um School of Zen Sanghas and communities as well as other participants will share with each other concerns, ideas, and solutions regarding these changes.  We will take part in lively discussions and role-playing forums leading to possible solutions and to what we can do.”  I plan to attend a few days and a few of us from Northern Light are attending also.  Check it out.  It sounds like an interesting time.  The Providence Zen Center is a lovely Center set in Cumberland RI and is worth a trip. Maybe we will see you there?

Exciting events happening at NLZC and nearby!

Greetings!

There are some very exciting things coming up at Northern Light Zen Center and our friends at Morgan Bay Zendo in Surry, Maine!  Here is just a quick run down of events.

On Saturday July 29th there is an extended practice.  We begin at 9 am and bow, chant and sit until noon.  This is typically followed with tea and conversation, maybe even cookies!  If Terry is there, (Terry Cronin JDPSN) we would have kong-an interviews as well.  This is not a guarantee, however.

On August 18 – 19 at Morgan Bay Zendo there is a Dharma talk and a one day retreat. The dharma talk is going to take place at the Blue Hill Library on the 18th at 8 pm and the retreat is the next day at Morgan Bay Zendo, from 8:30 am to 5 pm. The retreat will be led by Terry Cronin JDPSN.  In this retreat we will spend the day in silence sitting Zen alternating with walking meditation in the Zendo Moss Garden. A traditional Korean Zen four-bowl style vegetarian lunch will be served. Terry will offer traditional Zen kong-an interviews.  FMI and to register contact: Hathaway.N@gmail.com.  Also check out Morgan Bay Zendo at http://www.morganbayzendo.org.

On August 26th, the Northern Light Zen Center is having a one day retreat.  This retreat is led by Terry Cronin, JDPSN at the Northern Light Zen Center at 202 Meadow Road in Topsham.  Arrival and registration for new participants will begin at 6:50 am. For experienced participants arrival and registration begins at 7:50. Retreat ends at 4:30 pm.  FMI or to register for a retreat, email, northernlightzencenter@gmail.com or call 729-6013.

Lot’s of things Buddhist happening over the next month!  Very exciting and an awesome chance to strengthen your practice. Hopefully we will see you there!

Retreat coming up on December 31st!

End the year with friends and strong practice.

The Northern Light Zen Center is pleased to announce a one day retreat on December 31st from 7:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please arrive at 6:50 for orientation if this is your first retreat at NLZC. Formal meal will be included. The practice will involve alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation. Kong-An practice is available with the Guiding Teacher during the day.

RSVP required by December 9. This is a shorter RSVP deadline than usual so we can assess the interest in this end-of-year event.

We had a Retreat on August 27th!

Hey All!  On the 27th of August a group gathered at the Northern Light Zen Center for a day of sitting practice and Kong-An interviews.  We were a small group but we were strong and practice was good.  It was a good day!  Our next one day retreat is October 29th! Mark your calendars.

Today was Super Stupa Sunday!!

A bunch of us Zennies from Northern Light got together today to put up our Stupa!  Last year shortly after the monument to Dae Soen Sa Nim was erected at Providence Zenter Center, the Northern Light Zen Center was gifted the Stupa that was originally in the monuments place.  Today was the day we put that Stupa up! The future intention is to have the Stupa be the centerpiece for a memorial garden.  But for now the goal was to get it in place. We did it!  Goal accomplished.  Yay!  Check out our pics below.
